The Affordable Care Act, while not perfect, has done more for the citizens of the United States regarding access to healthcare than any legislative process since the implementation of Medicare. I have worked in hospitals throughout my 40 year career as a Social Worker. I have seen the benefits that having insurance that allows people to be seen by primary care providers, obtain prescription medication, to have home health and rehabilitation services means to my community. I have a strong belief that access to quality healthcare is a basic human right that should be safeguarded and enhanced, not left to the whims of “the market” geared to profit.

The BCRA proposed by the Senate and the AHCA that the House proposed are regressive bills that will decimate access to health care for over 20 million Americans. They do nothing to enhance the quality of care provided to anyone. Healthcare and the means to access it should be available to all of us. The wellness of the nation depends on it.
