Loved the story on the three inspiring men who had ties to Barrio Anita. Loved the end of the article. Mr. Benton was my Catechism teacher at Holy Family Church. Father Carrillo was my priest. Mr. Rudy Castro, was great friends with my parents, Frank and Julia Soto. I was a single, teen mother, raised in Barrio Anita. We lived at 810 N. Anita, and 733 N. Anita St, when my daughter was born. This little girl went everywhere with me. She knew Mr. Benton, she was blessed by then,Monsignor Carrillo at the Cathedral. Now, this little girl, Ms. Shawna Rodriguez is Principal at Tucson High Magnet School. There are those who have inspired her to be all she can be. Her wonderful grandmother who always told her, "Mijita, there is no such word as, "can't"; I truly believe my daughter who cares so much about kids from the barrios and all children needing a good education, will do Barrio Anita proud, like so many before her.
