BURLINGAME, Calif. â A 97-year-old San Francisco Bay Area woman whose fight against being evicted from her home of 66 years drew international attention, died Thursday evening.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday that Marie Hatch apparently died of natural causes after suffering from a severe cold for more than a week, family friends said. She had been hospitalized and Thursday evening returned home, where she died, the newspaper reported.
Attorneys for the woman filed suit last Friday to enforce a long-ago promise by the landlord that Hatch could live in her home until she died.
To help Hatch's, hundreds of people from as far away as New Zealand and all over the United States mailed in money and offers to either have her live with them or to buy the house and let her stay in it, the newspaper reported.
