PHOENIX — A leader of the grassroots teachers group organizing protests at the Capitol and at schools statewide plans to outline the next steps to secure better pay and school funding.

Arizona Educators United organizer Noah Karvelis plans a news conference with other members in the west Phoenix city of Tolleson on Monday. High visibility is one of the measures, with supporters urged to paint "Red for Ed" on their vehicles.

The group has held Capitol protests since early March. A sickout last week by Pendergast Elementary School District teachers shuttered most district schools.

Karvelis says he will detail organizing efforts for educators and other school workers. On Wednesday, the group announces its formal demands of state lawmakers and Gov. Doug Ducey.

Arizona teachers are among the lowest paid in the nation.
