A man who was shot and killed by a bystander after stealing beer has been identified.
Gerald Ramon, 46, was shot Sunday during an incident that began at about 2:30 p.m. at a Circle K store on North Oracle and West Grant roads, Tucson police said in a news release.
Witnesses told police they saw Ramon steal beer from the store. Some witnesses followed Ramon west on Grant Road.
One of the witnesses followed Ramon into a parking lot.
When Ramon advanced toward him with a “large log and holding it over his shoulder,” the man pulled out a handgun and shot Ramon, police said in a news release.
Ramon was taken to Banner University of Arizona Medical Center, where he died.
The shooter stayed at the scene and was cooperating with police, the release said.
Tucson police are investigating the incident and prosecutors will determine whether to charge the shooter, who has not been identified, department spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Bay told the Associated Press.
“Ideally, we would like people to just be a good witness and call 911,” Bay said. “If you see something happening, just call and give the best description you can.”
