Squish, squish.

The storms that soaked most of the city over the past two days boosted Tucson’s rain total for the year well above normal — with two wet months still to come in the year.

As of Wednesday at 4 p.m., the official rain gauge at Tucson International Airport had collected 12.65 inches of rain, more than an inch above the yearly normal of 11.59 inches, said Jim Meyer, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The clouds were beginning to clear in late afternoon, ushering in five or six days of puddle-clearing sun after a slight chance of rain Thursday. Enjoy the dry days with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 50s.

Meyer said rain chances return Tuesday, with better chances for more rain next Thursday and Friday.

October is already a wet month with 2.11 inches of rain, well above the normal monthly total of 0.89 inches.

The Pacific Ocean phenomenon known as El Niño is still going strong, keeping a “really high chance” of above-normal winter rains in the forecast, Meyer said.
