According to the Department of Education in 2020, 54% of adults lack basic literacy skills. Most Scandinavian countries have literacy rates of close to 100%. This does explain why so many people here will accept bluster and bs for answers to complex problems. Neither party seems willing to confront the problems of a populace that is uneducated, is less healthy, has a shorter life span and more chronic disease than other industrial nations. We do have more military might and economic power than any other but it hasn't translated to better outcomes for our populace.
