I used to say that Europeans could care less about American politics. Now, not so much. In the six weeks I spent abroad they were not shy about sharing their opinions. The lady in Barcelona at the mom and pop market who scoffed at me, the Airbnb host who did a double take and agreed when I mentioned our crazy politics, the two Australians who bluntly asked my political affiliation before continuing a pleasant conversation on a train platform, and the Scottish family who explained theyโd normally be proud Scottish blood made it to the White House but nae, not Trump.
In each case they were very much interested and they all emphatically agreed that to elect him the first time, okay, we didnโt understand what we were getting. But to elect him again, thatโs on us as Americans.
Iโm not suggesting we vote to appease foreigners, but letโs quit playing the fool. Vote Harris / Walz.
