In the article describing Cup It Up's owners' non-apology, the GOP spokesperson is quoted as encouraging them to "not give in to enslavement." Suffering disparaging and even threatening Facebook comments, is NOT the same as enslavement. Being told that your litany of things you support and don't support is hurtful, oppressive, or racist is NOT even close to enslavement. Its actually your opportunity to self-reflect and learn something. If there is any decency or respect within the GOP, it will retract this statement comparing meanness to enslavement. Enslavement is the specific method by which light-skinned immigrants in our country grew rich, and maintained their wealth and status, at the expense of dark skinned people who they forced to come here as slaves and Indigenous people who were already here. We should refuse to accept this kind of comparison.
