Voters by a 70% margin rejected Prop 454 for the Naranja Park improvements, which would have levied a first ever Oro Valley property tax amounting to about $60 a year for the average resident. The whole thing stunk from the beginning, with only 10,000 of 110,000 signatures to get the prop on the ballot coming from Oro Valley residents . And, with almost exclusive business donations, i.e., land developers, going to support the measure. They contributed about $36,000, whereas the opposition, Axe the Tax, raised about $4,000, from small individual donors. The residents of Oro Valley are sick of this stuff, a previous sales tax increase to fund a golf course, which is still losing over $1 million a year. The people of Oro Valley have spoken, and I hope the Mayor and Town Council received the message loud and clear, Stop It, no more taxes!
