Bisbee passed an ordinance banning plastic bags in 2012. Now a state senator has filed a complaint with the state attorney general to overturn it. Well, I say, let him. I call upon the citizens of Bisbee to continue their ban, voluntarily.
The Trump administration is working to repeal policies curbing greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, a ban on a pesticide dangerous to kids’ health, participation in the Paris Climate Agreement, worker safety standards, birth control coverage in health insurance plans, clean water protections. . . . I’m not issuing a repeal-away dare here. But I call upon the citizens (and corporations) of the United States to maintain the established policies and standards, voluntarily.
With Bisbee, it’s a matter of litter. With the country, it’s a matter of, well, litter, which is included in the thesaurus in the category of “disorder,” along with derangement, disunion, discord, and turmoil. We don’t need coercion to solve our litter problems. We can all choose to do the right thing.
