This year’s Golden Globe nominations featured major stars and box-office giants but also some unexpected omissions across film, TV, and podcasts. Gwyneth Paltrow’s long-awaited return in ‘Marty Supreme’ failed to secure a nomination, with her supporting role overlooked in a crowded category. Sydney Sweeney’s acclaimed performance as boxer Christy Martin in the movie ‘Christy’ was also snubbed, despite receiving some of the strongest reviews of her career.  ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ and other shortlisted political podcasts (including ‘The Megyn Kelly Show’) were excluded from the new podcast category. While ‘Wicked: For Good’ did secure acting nominations for Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the film was not nominated in the Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category. James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ became the first installment of the franchise not to be nominated for Best Motion Picture – Drama, breaking its long awards streak.  Eight-time Golden Globe winner Meryl Streep was snubbed in the supporting actor categories, even though her series, ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ received nominations for its lead trio. Hugh Jackman, a four-time nominee, was overlooked for the film ‘Song Sung Blue,’ but his co-star Kate Hudson earned recognition in the musical/comedy category. ‘Stranger Things’ will finish its final season without any nominations, continuing its uneven awards history despite previous nominations for the show and its actors.
