Head coach Brian Peabody signals for the defensive alignment over the head of guard Zach Evans during practice for the Pima Community College basketball team in 2015.

Pima College men’s basketball coachΒ Brian PeabodyΒ began the season Saturday, believe it or not. The Aztecs played in the ACCAC Jamboree in Phoenix. Before the regular season begins next month, Peabody’s Aztecs will play a scrimmage against Hillcrest Prep Academy of Phoenix on Oct. 22 at 4 p.m., in the PCC gymnasium. Hillcrest’s top player, of course, is 7-foot Arizona commitΒ DeAndre Ayton. Peabody’s top player this season is likely to be Empire High School gradΒ Deion James, a 6-7 wing player who has received interest from recruiters at UTEP, Washington State, Grand Canyon, USF and New Mexico State, among others.Β
