Mansfeld Magnet Middle School is having its first ever STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) festival and Tucson families are invited.
The event features student projects, with presentations and interactive activities.
For example, the student running the bottle rocket booth will share how she made a rocket, what worked and what didn't.
A printmaking process booth will have supplies on hand so community members can try their hand at printing.
Other presentations include Magnetic Sand, Lava Lamp Stress Ball, Origami Frogs, Vex Robotics, Seeds of Stewardship Photography and more.
"Since it is the very first STEM festival with student-led presentations, we wanted to leave the format open to allow students maximum expression," said Kirstin Bittel, the school's magnet coordinator. "It will be set up similar to the SARSEF format with all the presentations going on at the same time in the same room."
In other words, it will be set up kind of like a science fair, giving families free reign to check out the projects and presentations that interest them the most.
Toward the end of the night families can vote for the best STEM project.
This is the Mission Possible Device, created by a student at Mansfeld Magnet Middle School as part of her competition in the Science Olympiad. The objective was to raise a flag of set dimensions above the machine. You can learn more about it at the STEM festival.
