Tucson Unified School District announced it will close all schools during the teacher walkout on Thursday.
Several schools had a large percentage of employees say they would not be at work Thursday, said Gabriel Trujillo, TUSD's superintendent in a press conference Tuesday morning.
It is still unknown whether TUSD schools will be open Friday.Β
But Trujillo said it is likely the district will be closed through the rest of this week, since 1,300 people have called in for Friday, so far.Β
Food services will be available at the schools for children that rely on school breakfast and lunches. But, parents will need to accompany their children for meals.Β
Sunnyside Unified will also close Thursday and Friday.Β
Food services will be available to Sunnyside children at all Sunnyside schools for breakfast and lunch. Parents must accompany their children to the cafeteria. Breakfast is at 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch is at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Β
Catalina Foothills on Tuesday said it will close for the duration of the strike, according to a memo Superintendent Mary Kamerzell sent to staffers Tuesday morning.
The Marana Unified School District announced that it will close all 18 of its schools Thursday.Β
Sahuarita Unified School District will be closed Thursday and Friday. A statement from the district's superintendent said 57 percent of its teachers plan on walking out. Early Childhood Center and L.I.N.K. will be closed as well.
Amphitheater schools will close all of its schools Thursday and Friday.
Flowing Wells school district will be closed Thursday for sure and most likely on Friday, said its superintendent, David Baker.
The Vail School District announced Tuesday afternoon that all of its schools will be closed Thursday and Friday.Β
Tanque Verde Unified School District announced it would be closing all its schools on Thursday and Friday. The district's after care will continue to operate.
A statewide Arizona Teacher walkout was planned after 78 percent of school employees voted in favor of the action.Β
Teachers and support staff will remain on the job through Wednesday, said Noah Karvelis, who helped found Arizona Educators United, one of the groups behind the #RedForEd movement.Β
Closures also affect before-care and after-care, so parents should start planning for that.Β
There has been internal discussion to expand the city's KidCo extended care program during the teacher strike, but it is unclear whether that is feasible.Β
