Arizona Bowl matchup: Air Force vs. South Alabama

Air Force and South Alabama will square off in the second Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl.

Bowl officials announced the participants Sunday afternoon. The game is set for 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at Arizona Stadium.

Air Force finished the regular season 9-3, 5-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Because of the presence of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, the Falcons’ participation in the Arizona Bowl is considered a huge win for the fledgling game.

“H-U-G-E,” Arizona Bowl executive director Mike Feder said.

South Alabama, representing the Sun Belt Conference, went 6-6 during the regular season. The Jaguars were just 2-6 in league play but defeated Mississippi State in Starkville and then-No. 19 San Diego State in non-conference matchups.

American Sports Network will televise the game live. In Tucson, the game will be carried by KWBA-TV, the local CW affiliate, on channel 8 on Cox and Comcast and channel 58 on DirectTV and DISH Network.
