Arizona is looking to add playmakers to its offense for 2018, and the Wildcats might've found one on Friday night.
San Diego athlete Thomas Marcus verbally committed to Arizona, making him the third straight skill position player to pledge to UA's 2018 recruiting class. Since last month, the Wildcats have also added tight end Jake Peters and receiver Tre Adams.
Marcus isn't currently rated by Scout.com or Rivals.com and his only other scholarship offer is from Utah State. He's the 13th player to commit to Arizona's 2018 class and its seventh on offense.
Marcus was primarily recruited by co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Rod Smith, who recruits the San Diego area for the UA staff.
Marcus is listed as an athlete on all the major online recruiting services, though he's expected to play receiver at Arizona. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, Marcus adds some much-needed size to the UA receiving corps, which will lose 6-4 receiver Shawn Poindexter after this season, as well as speedster Tyrell Johnson, who is only 5-7.
Arizona's tallest returning receiver next season is freshman Drew Dixon, the 6-4 Sabino product, but he's redshirting the 2017 season. After him, Arizona's only other scholarship wideout listed at 6-feet or taller is 6-foot freshman Brian Casteel, who has played sparingly this season and has yet to record a catch.
So far this season, Marcus has 13 catches for 302 yards and seven touchdowns for San Diego High, adding 11 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown on the ground. He played some quarterback as a junior and threw 19 touchdowns.
