Among UA alumni, Nogales native Bob Baffert is one of the top names that come to mind.
The hall of fame horse trainer added a second triple crown to his collection after his horse, Justify, won Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Baffert and Justify also took home the Kentucky Derby and Preakness earlier this year.
The Star dug through the archives to find the earliest photo of Baffert and, well, this is what we found. Coincidentally, the photo was taken prior to Belmont Stakes in 1996.
Baffert is seen wearing a New York Yankees hat, guiding his horse at the time, Cavonnier, as they entered as favorites with 3-1 odds to win the race.
Unfortunately for Baffert, Editor's Note won the race, and Baffert didn't win his first Belmont Stakes until 2001 with Point Given, a horse that became the first horse ever to win four consecutive $1 million races.
