The first game tonight was delayed by lightning. Hence the late start.TJ Nichols takes the mound for Arizona. Presumably gonna see nine pitchers if we go nine innings.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Just to set the scene a little bit: There's a concert going on down the LF line. AND they're playing music over the PA system between every pitch.Meanwhile, TJ Nichols has yielded a double and a walk with one out in T1.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
TJ Nichols works out of trouble and strands two. Used the breaking ball to get a K swinging and end the Hermosillo threat. The more TJ can utilize his secondary pitches to complement his mid-90s fastball, the better he'll be.

Wondering if Tommy Splaine might be hurt. He's coaching first base. Will ask Chip after the game.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Chase Davis makes a leaping catch in the left-field corner to end the top of the sixth. A little scary to see that after Chase banged his shoulder in the Pac-12 Tournament last season. But he seems fine.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Entering to pitch for Arizona: sophomore LHP Eric Orloff. Had a promising freshman campaign. One of five left-handed pitchers on the roster.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Two misplays in the top of the seventh by Arizona - a blooper that Tyler Casagrande should have caught and a grounder that Garen Caulfield should have fielded. As a result, bases loaded, one out for Hermosillo.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Eric Orloff pitches out of it. Induces a 6-4-3 double play started by freshman Mason White.Arizona 6, Hermosillo 3, B7.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Another veteran pitcher enters for Arizona - Chris Barraza. He'll be one of the Wildcats' setup men this season with Trevor Long likely to be the closer again.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Nice play by Tony Bullard charging a chopper and quickly firing to first. Bullard's arm seems back to normal. Had to throw with a catapult motion last year because of his shoulder.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
And of course on the next play Bullard throws errantly to first. Hermosillo has first and third, two outs, T8, trailing the Wildcats 6-3.

Chip Hale is going to the pen. He's here to win this thing.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
We will get our first look at transfer Derek Drees, who came to Arizona from Butler. 6-6, 243-pound right-hander.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Hermosillo has tied it up. It's 6-6 entering the bottom of the eighth. No extra innings, I'm told (I pray, I hope)
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
This is set up for Chase Davis to hit a walk-off homer. He leads off B9. 6-6 tie.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
No ninth-inning dramatics. The game ends in a 6-6 tie. Arizona has two more exhibition games this fall at Hi Corbett Field.
— Michael Lev (@MichaelJLev) October 7, 2022
Tommy Splaine has a sprained wrist. Will be fine, UA Coach Chip Hale said. OF Emilio Corona didn’t play because of a hamstring. Would have started in right with Casagrande at DH. Opened up a spot for Mason White, who has impressed thus far per Chip.
