What makes this yearâs Wildcats so special?
While at the Pac-12 Tournament in Las Vegas, Arizona fan Juliet Fortino offered an explanation.
âWe had no expectations this season,â said the 49-year-old Fortino. âNot a single Arizona fan here if you asked them had these kinds of expectations for Tommy Lloyd in his first season. Look where we are now; why canât we make it happen?â
Fortino and the group she traveled to Las Vegas with like the Wildcatsâ chances to cut down the nets and hoist the NCAA championship trophy.
âThey donât really have any big weaknesses,â Henry Fortino, 53, said.
Added Jill Martindale, 69, âTheyâre fully capable of going all the way.â
Much of that has to do with the Wildcatsâ likable, electrifying roster and fast-paced style of play.

The Star asked Wildcats fans to name their favorite player. Hereâs what they said:
Jackie Ludwig, 63: âDalen Terry. His smile, his energy. Heâs always pumping us up, raising his hands.â
Larry Leber, 76: âAzuolas Tubelis. Heâs a great player, he gives 100%, he runs the court hard and heâs tough underneath. Heâs so unassuming and just gets down to business.â
DeDe Leber, 75: âBenn Mathurin. When heâs on, everyone is on. When heâs going, we win.â
Angel Bracamonte, 13: âOumar Ballo. Heâs got that size; heâll just slam it in your face. Thatâs all you got to do, you just got to feed him the ball.â

Danny Klein, 43: Koloko. âMost improved player in college basketball, best shot blocker in the country right now. Amazing what heâs done in terms of his growth and what Tommy Lloyd has instilled in him.â
Rick Vock, 63: âMathurin. What an athlete, itâs going to be fun to watch him in the NBA. Heâs what an NBA player looks like in college. Fun to watch.â
Kyle Kempton, 19: âMathurin. Heâs throwing down those crazy windmills. His energy is really high too all the time. Heâs always yelling and doing all this crazy stuff.â
Jill Martindale, 69: âI love them all. Itâs hard to choose because they all each have great potential.â
Wildcats guard Kerr Kriisa has become a fan favorite because of his flair for the dramatic and emotional play.
Bates Butler, 77: âKerr Kriisa. Heâs a great shooter and a great point guard. Kerr is a lot of fun.â
Robert Butler, 44: âKerr. I love his attitude. I love that all the other teams hate him, it makes us love him even more.â
Bret Borg, 61: âTerry, man. The Phoenix guy comes to the right place. Heâs unselfish, heâs going to be great.â
