The pecking order of the NBA Draft unfolded during Tuesday night's lottery, and for the first time in franchise history, the Phoenix Suns will have the No. 1 pick.
The Sacramento Kings have the No. 2 pick with Atlanta sitting at No. 3 for the June 21 draft.
Phoenix (21-61) finished with the worst record in the NBA and had the highest odds of landing the top pick at 25 percent. What does this mean? Just two hours down the road at UA is 7-foot-1 Bahamian big man Deandre Ayton, who has been projected as the No. 1 pick in several national mock drafts.Β
If the Suns picked Ayton, he would join rising shooting guard Devin Booker and second-year wing Josh Jackson. Ayton said in April that he envisioned "Shaq and Kobe 2.0" if the Suns picked him.
It would also be somewhat of a homecoming for Ayton. Despite spending most of his life in the Bahamas, Ayton played at Hillcrest Prep in the Valley.Β
However, it's not a lock for Ayton to play in Phoenix. New head coach Igor Kokoskov, Serbian native, coached overseas superstar Luka Doncic in Slovenia. Mock drafts have projected Doncic to be a top three pick.
