Arizona has offered a scholarship to Salpointe sophomore forward Majok Deng, according to his club team.
Deng, a refugee from Sudan who moved to Tucson six years ago, is a rare local player offered a scholarship to play for the Wildcats. In recent years, former Sabino standout Matt Korcheck received one after playing at Cochise College, while Talbott Denny of Salpointe left Lipscomb last spring to become a grad transfer for the Wildcats this season.
Deng's story off the court is compelling. He grew up in South Sudan, where his soccer games were "always interrupted by guns" according to a Scout.com feature,Β and he's still separated from his Africa-bound father.
On the court, Scout ranks Deng as a four-star prospect in the class of 2019.
