While Tuesday was the first day college basketball practices can begin thanks to more liberal NCAA rules, the Arizona Wildcats are taking their time.
With only 27 practices available until their Nov. 7 opener against Houston Baptist — with its Red-Blue scrimmage and two exhibition games taking the other three practice spots — UA coach Sean Miller opted to start the whole process on Sunday while he recruits and holds limited workouts until then.
The Wildcats have still been able to practice as a team for up to four hours a week, because of another more relaxed NCAA rule.
So while ASU was going at it in Tempe, Miller was visiting at Bella Vista Prep while also reportedly being scheduled to visit Drew Timme in Texas.
And while UA is expected to hold its preseason media day sometime next week, ASU coach Bobby Hurley was talking to reporters on Tuesday.
The Sun Devils do have a few guys banged up, though.
Sports Illustrated didn't list UA-UCLA or any other Pac-12 rivalries among its top rivalries in college basketball, but Dave Pasch-vs.-Bill Walton did get an honorable mention.
Kobi Simmons is carrying a chip on his shoulder into the Cavaliers' camp.
