Sean Miller did not coach the Arizona Wildcats when practice resumed Monday, two days after he sat out the UA's overtime loss at Oregon and returned home on his own.
UA associate head coach Lorenzo Romar confirmed that Miller was "not with us" before practice began. Romar said he didn't know if anything had changed with Miller's status. The UA has not formally said if Miller's status has changed.
An ESPN report Friday night said Miller allegedly discussed with an agent a $100,000 payment to star UA freshman Deandre Ayton. ESPN has clarified that the discussion took place in 2016.
Ayton played Saturday. A day later, UA outside counsel Paul Kelly issued a statement saying that he was confident Ayton is "fully eligible" to play for the Wildcats.
Kelly's statement said that Ayton "has credibly and consistently maintained" in interviews with the FBI, UA and NCAA" that neither he nor any member of his family, nor any representative thereof, received any money or extra benefit to influence his decision to attend the University of Arizona."
