Pac-12 Hall of Honor
Updated
Arizona's Michael Wright signals UA is No. 1 after winning the Pac-10 against Stanford in 2001.
David Sanders / Arizona Daily StarDuring halftime of the UCLA-Arizona game, the Pac-12 Hall of Honor, the conference’s version of a hall of fame, introduced its 2018 class.
Arizona’s inductee was forward Michael Wright, who played at Arizona from 1998-2001 and was the starting small forward for the Cats in the 2001 national championship game against Duke. Wright died in 2015; Wright’s daughter, Daisha, accepted the award on his behalf Friday. Other notable inductees: Basketball star Cheryl Miller (USC), volleyball player Kerri Walsh-Jennings (Stanford), quarterback Sonny Sixkiller (Washington) and decathlete Rafer Johnson (UCLA).

The Pac-12 Tournament has featured halftime shows by magicians, entertainers and a Michael Jackson impersonator. The Oregon-USC halftime show was none other than the 2008 winner of America’s Best Dance Crew, the Jabbawockeez. The group, known for sporting street wear and white masks, has performed its hit show eight times a week at MGM Grand for several years. The price to see the Jabbawockeez: $99 on weekends and $63 on weekdays.

Super Bowl MVP and former Arizona quarterback Nick Foles sat courtside during Thursday and Friday’s games. He also spoke to the Wildcats before their semifinal game against UCLA and gave a motivational speech.
Sean Miller spoke to Pac-12 Networks about Foles’ speech.
“He gave a great message. The bigger the moment, the more you want to stay in the moment and do the things that have made you a good player and a good team,” Miller said. “I think it’s a message that everybody who is involved in March Madness tries to preach but coming from him obviously means a lot.
“I think they were excited, just the fact that he knew who they were and the fact he would take time out of his life and come and watch us play.”
Final matchup for ex-teammates
Updated
UCLA’s Thomas Welsh and Arizona’s Parker Jackson-Cartwright were high school teammates. Both played together at Los Angeles’ Loyola High School between 2010-13. Jackson-Cartwright finished his senior year at Sierra Canyon.
The two former teammates played each other eight times in college, with Jackson-Cartwright’s Wildcats winning five times.
Welcome back, Lorenzo
Updated
UA assistant coach Lorenzo Romar will return to the Pac-12 championship game for the first time since 2011, when he was the head coach at Washington.
That was when the conference was the Pac-10, and the tournament was at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Arizona fans will always remember it as the Isaiah Thomas game. The Huskies’ small-but-mighty guard hit a step-back 3-pointer over Arizona’ MoMo Jones at the buzzer, giving UW the title.
Williams heading home
Updated
Miller’s first UA superstar has a new home.
Williams signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania reported. Williams, who hails from nearby La Mirada, could be available as soon as Sunday, when the Lakers host the Cavaliers.
Williams, the former No. 2 overall draft pick, played for five different NBA teams between 2011-2017, most recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. Williams spent part of this season with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Tianjin Gold Lions, where he averaged 20 points and 6 rebounds per game.
