PHOENIX — It's official. Fans and reporters on Friday welcomed Deandre Ayton as the newest member of the Phoenix Suns after the franchise drafted him No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft. Ayton took a flight from New York to Phoenix on limited sleep and spent Friday afternoon greeting the crowd at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
Among Ayton were the Suns' other draft picks: Villanova's Mikal Bridges, Colorado's George King, and French point guard Élie Okobo.
Suns GM Ryan McDonough called the afternoon a "historic day for the franchise" and was thrilled to start a new era of Suns basketball with his star big man at the forefront.
Ayton will play in the same state which he played high school and college ball, which called for a special press conference. Here are the best things said at Ayton's introduction:
