J.B. Long is one of the Pac-12 Network’s signature play-by-play men during both the conference’s basketball and football seasons.
When the two sports cross over, as they do now, his schedule gets particularly hectic.
This week, Long said, is his “busiest of the season.” Long is also the voice of the Los Angeles Rams.
Sunday, Long was in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for the Rams game against the New York Jets, which Los Angeles won 9-6.
Tuesday, Long was on the call for Arizona’s game against Cal State Bakersfield. He was joined by analyst Matt Muehlebach, a former UA standout.
Wednesday, Long flies to Corvallis, Oregon, to call the Oregon State basketball game against Lamar.
Thursday, he’ll be back in SoCal for groundbreaking of the Rams’ new stadium in Inglewood.
Friday, Long will, again, fly out to Corvallis to prep for Saturday’s football game between the UA and Oregon State. Long will call that game with Arizona alum Glenn Parker.
The week will close out back in Los Angeles when Long retreats to the Coliseum for the Rams’ home game against the Miami Dolphins.
By our general estimation, Long will have traveled more than 6,000 miles in one week’s time.

17-0: Cal State Bakersfield went on a 17-0 run in the second half to bring Arizona’s lead down from 21 points with 14:45 remaining to four at the 7:42 mark. Lauri Markkanen then extended Arizona’s lead to seven points with a 3-pointer.

Games against teams like Cal State Bakersfield usually mean dunks by the host Wildcats.
Arizona did so on Tuesday at times, certainly. Center Chance Comanche slammed a powerful one-handed dunk on top of Bakersfield’s Moataz Aly.
The highlight dunk of the night, though, came with 8:37 left in the first half. That’s when 5-foot-10-inch Roadrunners guard Dedrick Basile rose above guard Kobi Simmons and dunked on the high-flying UA freshman. On his way back up the court, a hyped-up Basile yelled something unprintable in Simmons’ direction.

Moataz Aly is from Alexandria, Egypt.
Keanu Pinder is from Perth, Australia.
Somehow, Aly and Pinder know each other quite well.
Aly, a 6-10 center for Bakersfield, and Pinder, a 6-9 reserve for the Wildcats, both played together at Wichita’s Sunrise Christian Academy and at Hutchinson Community College, also in Kansas.
Small world: UA guard Kadeem Allen was the NJCAA player of the year at Hutchinson CC before coming to Arizona, and Serbian big man Dusan Ristic played in high school at Sunrise Christian before becoming a Wildcat.
Neither Allen nor Ristic, though, played at their respective spots at the same time as Aly or Pinder.

Every year, Arizona has a walk-on who, for whatever reason, becomes a fan favorite.
Last year, it was Jacob Hazzard.
Before that, Drew Mellon.
Max Wiepking held the title for a few years during the Derrick Williams-Solomon Hill years.
It’s unclear who will take the reins this season, but one walk-on threw his hat in the ring on Tuesday night — guard Paulo Cruz from San Diego.
Cruz, a sophomore, played in six games for the Wildcats last season. He is one of three walk-ons; the other two — Tyler Trillo and Jake Desjardins — are newcomers.
With Arizona’s multitude of roster question marks, including Ray Smith’s injury-induced retirement and Allonzo Trier’s questionable status, the Wildcats are down to an eight-man rotation of scholarship players. UA coach Sean Miller has said that the walk-ons need to be ready to play in a pinch.
Miller needed the 6-foot-4-inch Cruz on Tuesday with starting two-guard Kadeem Allen out with a left knee sprain and the Wildcats thin in the backcourt. The San Diegan played one minute and didn’t record any stats in the first half, and never checked in during the second half.

Well, his father is kind of a big deal — that’s Joaquim Cruz, a Brazilian Olympic medalist track star who won the gold in the 800 meters in the 1984 games and a silver in the 1988 games.
