Senior tailback Nick Wilson is listed as questionable on the Arizona Wildcats’ injury report for the second week in a row.
Wilson dressed but did not play against Houston last week because of an ankle injury. His status remains up in the air for Friday’s game at UTEP. The oft-injured Wilson rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown in the Sept. 2 opener against Northern Arizona.
Arizona has good depth at tailback. J.J. Taylor rushed for 87 yards against Houston. Zach Green is a reliable short-yardage runner. And four-star freshman Nathan Tilford impressed in spring and fall camps.
Defensive tackle Parker Zellers also is listed as questionable because of an ankle injury. Don’t be surprised if Arizona plays it safe with Zellers in a game the Wildcats should be able to win without him.
Arizona has rotated heavily at the interior defensive line positions through the first two games. Finton Connolly and Kurtis Brown likely would split time at Zellers’ spot if he can’t play.
Tight end Trevor Wood, who did not play against Houston because of an ankle injury, will sit out against UTEP as well. Freshman Bryce Wolma started last week and led the team with five receptions.
“Stud” DeAndre’ Miller (foot) and safety Isaiah Hayes (shoulder) remain out. Miller this week shed the boot he has been wearing and could return for next week’s Pac-12 opener against Utah.
Linebacker Carrington Vaughn is out for the season because of a knee injury. Vaughn, a redshirt sophomore, was a key member of Arizona’s special teams.
