Former Arizona Wildcats defensive tackle Roy Lopez Jr. has signed with the Cardinals, his hometown team.

Lopez, who spent his first two seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans, initially will join the Cardinals' practice squad.

Lopez spent the 2020 season with the Wildcats after transferring from New Mexico State. He appeared in all five games during the pandemic-shortened season and had a team-high four tackles for loss.

The Texans selected Lopez in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He appeared in 33 games with the Texans, starting 29. He compiled 67 tackles, including 11 TFLs.

Lopez is from the Phoenix area. He graduated from Gilbert Mesquite High School before playing four seasons at NMSU. His father, also named Roy, used to be the head coach at Sunnyside.
