Another of Rich Rodriguez’s former assistant coaches is headed to the Big Ten.
Jahmile Addae, who coached the Arizona Wildcats’ safeties the past two seasons, has been hired as the defensive backs coach at Minnesota.

Addae will go head-to-head with one of his former colleagues on Nov. 3, when Minnesota visits Illinois. The Illini last month hired ex-UA assistant Rod Smith as their offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Addae will work under P.J. Fleck, who enters his second season as the Golden Gophers’ head coach.
Addae spent five seasons at Arizona, the first three as a staff analyst. He transitioned to a full-time on-field role in December 2016.
Rodriguez was fired Jan. 2. Kevin Sumlin replaced him Jan. 14. He retained two members of Rodriguez’s 2017 staff. Here’s a rundown of where those coaches have landed:
- Jahmile Addae: Minnesota, DB coach
- Theron Aych: Arizona, inside receivers
- Calvin Magee: New Mexico, offensive coordinator/RB coach
- Jim Michalczik: Oregon State, run-game coordinator/OL coach/associate HC
- Rod Smith: Illinois, offensive coordinator/QB coach
- Marcel Yates: Arizona, defensive coordinator/linebackers
