Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is your 2017 American Football Coaches Association president.

Arizona Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez has been named president of the 2017 American Football Coaches Association, whose convention takes place this week in Nashville, Tennessee.

Rodriguez served on the AFCA Board of Trustees from 2005-10 and was renamed to the board in 2015, according to a UA news release. He served as first vice president in 2016.

The other 2017 AFCA officers are first vice president Bill Cronin of Georgetown College (Ky.), second VP Frank Solich of Ohio and third VP Mike Riley of Nebraska.

(Riley hired cornerbacks coach DontΓ© Williams away from Arizona last month, so that could make for some awkward conversations at the hotel bar.)

The AFCA Convention provides coaches with an opportunity to network and exchange ideas. Rodriguez hired defensive coordinator Marcel Yates shortly after the 2016 AFCA convention.

Rodriguez has a 36-29 record with the Wildcats, including bowl berths in his first four seasons. But he is coming off a 3-9 campaign, by his worst at Arizona.
