Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez is often talking about how the Wildcats need to get bigger up front, specifically on the defensive line.

The Wildcats seem to be making progress in that area — Thursday night, defensive tackle Mykee Irving announced his verbal commitment to Arizona.

"It just seemed like the best fit for me," Irving told the Star, noting the liked "the environment" at Arizona.

"They have the mentality I like," he said.

Listed at 6-2 and 305 pounds, Irving quickly becomes one of the biggest defensive line recruits Rodriguez has ever recruited to Arizona. Irving, from Calabasas High School in California, is rated a three-star recruit by Scout.com. He's also ranked the No. 6 defensive tackle in California, and No. 9 in the West.

Irving picked Arizona over an offer from UCLA. UA defensive line coach Vince Amey was Irving's primary recruiter.

Irving's verbal brings Arizona's 2018 class up to 10 commitments, and Irving is the second consecutive highly-regarded defensive lineman to pledge to Arizona, following Josh Walker of IMG Academy in Florida, who committed on Aug. 1.
