National Signing Day officially begins Wednesday and while college football coaches across America make the final push for committed recruits to ink their national letters of intent and fax it over as quickly possible, there are several prospects who still have to make their college choice.
Last year around this time, the Arizona Wildcats took a couple of gut-wrenching blows to their class after Willie Taggart lured four-star quarterback Braxton Burmeister and offensive lineman Cody Shear to Oregon. Shear was set to sign with the Wildcats on NSD, but flipped the day of.
That might not happen with any players in 2018, but recruiting is unpredictable.
First year head coach Kevin Sumlin currently has 16 signed players along with five verbally committed, but what about the uncommitted recruits? The 2018 class is essentially finished, but there could be a few more players joining.
Here's a few uncommitted recruits to keep an eye on that will possibly join the Arizona Wildcats on National Signing Day.
Dayven Coleman
UpdatedPosition: Safety, outside linebacker
Hometown: Mesquite, Tex. (West Mesquite HS)
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 200 pounds
247 Sports ranking: Three stars, No. 57 safety
ESPN ranking: Three stars, No. 43 safety
Also considering: Illinois, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Colorado and UCLA.
Comment: Coleman decommitted from UCLA on Nov. 3 and visited UA, Kansas State, Colorado and Illinois in that time frame. Coleman is a safety, but certain defensive formations allow him to play more as a linebacker so his hybrid position could allow him to thrive under UA defensive coordinator Marcel Yates especially if he sticks with the 3-3-5 defense. But even if Yates changes to a more tradition defensive front with four down linemen and takes away a defensive back, he can still see time as a third down player either dropping back in coverage or blitzing. Coleman is announcing his college decision Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. local time.
Kevin Doyle
UpdatedPosition: Quarterback
Hometown: Washington DC (St. John's College HS)
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 210 pounds
247 Sports ranking: Three stars, No. 24 pro-style quarterback
ESPN ranking: Four stars, No. 19 pro-style quarterback
Also considering: Colorado State, Michigan, Boston College, Florida International, Indiana and Iowa.
Comment: The 2017-18 DC Gatorade Player of the Year, Doyle decommitted from Michigan on Feb. 4, and then UA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone offered him the following day. In 2017, Doyle threw for 2,635 yards and 22 touchdowns. Doyle is currently warm on Arizona along with Colorado State, but if he were to commit and sign with the Wildcats, he would join dual-threat quarterback Jamarye Joiner as the two quarterbacks of the class.
Draycen Hall
UpdatedPosition: Running back
Hometown: Gilbert, Ariz. (Higley HS)
Height: 5-foot-8
Weight: 170 pounds
247 Sports ranking: Three stars, No. 33 all-purpose back
ESPN ranking: N/A
Also considering: Southern Utah, Navy, Columbia, Air Force and Army
Comment: Arizona does have a recent history of bringing in sub-5-foot-10 running backs and Draycen Hall fits that mold. He recorded 6,462 all-purpose yards in his career at Higley, and runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and bench presses 310 and squats 405 pounds. Recruited by former UA defensive line coach Vince Amey, Arizona is Hall's only offer from the Pac-12, but he also had interest from Arizona State and Washington. If Hall wants significant playing time early, then he's probably headed to one of the military academies or Southern Utah, but he's warm on Arizona so he could be another addition to Cats' 2018 class.
Jermaine Braddock
UpdatedPosition: Wide receiver
Hometown: Covina, Calif. (Charter Oak HS)
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 180 pounds
247 Sports ranking: Three stars, No. 200 wide receiver
ESPN ranking: N/A
Also considering: Utah State, Air Force, Colorado State and Hawaii.
Comment: Arizona offered Braddock back in August, but his recruitment stopped there. Braddock also went to the same high school as UA wide receiver Brian Casteel who flashed potential as a rotational player in the Foster Farms Bowl. Will Braddock join his old teammate Casteel in Tucson? Who knows, but Braddock has only visited Utah State so it's likely UA could miss out on him.
