Back to business
UpdatedBy Justin Spears / Arizona Daily Star
There were three members from last season's Arizona coaching staff: Defensive coordinator Marcel Yates, senior defensive analyst Chuck Cecil and wide receivers coach Theron Aych.
Aych joined the staff at the start of the 2017 season after coaching at UTEP in 2016, and mentored players like Shun Brown, Tony Ellison and 6-foot-5 wide out Shawn Poindexter. All three players combined for 1,465 yards.
With Khalil Tate surging as Arizona's new leader at quarterback and a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, the passing game will be crucial for the Wildcats in Kevin Sumlin's first year.
Arizona ranked last in the Pac-12 last season in passing offense, but also had the least amount of attempts. Aych and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone will have their work cut out for them getting Arizona's pass offense up to speed with the run game.
Aych's role with the team is different than last season. In 2017, he coached the entire wide receiver unit. This year, he'll only mentor the inside slot receivers such as Brown and Ellison, although some names have stepped up so far in spring practice.
Aych spoke with the media after Monday's practice, here's what he had to say.
