Back in 2013, Cam Denson starred for Salpointe Catholic as a do-everything athlete, and guided the Lancers to a state title.
He played — and excelled at — wide receiver, cornerback, returned punts and kicks and even occasionally filled in at quarterback.
All of that contributed to his four-star rating coming out of Salpointe. He started off his UA career as a cornerback, but now Denson will have the chance to get back to making plays on offense for the Wildcats — in Arizona's online roster, Denson, a junior, is listed as a wide receiver. He's 5-11 and 179 pounds.
He was the Star's pick for high school player of the year that season, and understandably — he had 1,453 receiving yards, 32 total touchdowns and had seven interceptions on defense.
Some other notes from Arizona's latest roster heading into spring drills, which open on Friday:
- Paul Magloire is listed at safety. He moved from the secondary to linebacker last year and finished second on the Wildcats with 72 tackles.
- Jamardre Cobb is at linebacker. Cobb, a redshirt sophomore, moved from linebacker to fullback last season and caught one touchdown. He was a four-star recruit at LB coming out of high school.
- Darrell Cloy is now at defensive end after coming to Arizona as a tight end. He's a sophomore.
- The Wildcats added a handful of walk-ons to its roster including a quarterback (Anthony Medina), a former BYU walk-on (Ikaia Nawahine) and a former UTEP walk-on (Donovan Walker).
- DL Sharif Williams and RB Jonathan Haden are officially off the roster. Williams recently medically retired and Haden is transferring.
- Arizona's mid-year enrollees, including the four grayshirts, are all listed on the roster for the first time. This includes: QB Khalil Tate, LB Kahi Neves, S Isaiah Hayes, OL Keenan Walker, OL Harper Sherman, TE Jamie Nunley, DB Antonio Parks.
