Scooby Wright’s camp released a video over the weekend detailing the former Arizona Wildcat’s journey from overlooked high school recruit to NFL draft prospect. You can check out the video - which is entitled "The Process" and includes tons of UA highlights - at the bottom of this post.
Despite Wright’s redemptive performance at Arizona’s pro day last week, doubts remain about his viability as an every-down linebacker. Here’s what Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net wrote about Wright for WalterFootball.com:
There was a decent crowd out in the desert to watch Scooby Wright, who wasn't overly impressive. The consensus was Wright ran the 40 in the mid-4.8s (4.84/4.85), though some teams did clock him at 4.79. I'm told his position work was solid, but nothing outstanding. Teams are concerned about his body type, as Wright has a stocky upper frame but thin lower body.
Wright is definitely a leader on the field and teammates are drawn to him; intangibles NFL decision-makers will have to factor in. The question is, how early do you draft a 239-pound linebacker who runs in the 4.8s and can't cover?
Meanwhile, WalterFootball’s latest mock draft has Wright coming off the board early in the fourth round, to the Baltimore Ravens. That’s probably the floor for Wright, with the late second round being the ceiling.
Pro day provided a boost for DE-OLB Reggie Gilbert and safety Will Parks. Both helped themselves and could be drafted in the late rounds.
