Arizona women's basketball picked up its first verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 in Somto Okafor, a 5-foot-9 guard from Spain on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Okafor plays for the same team, Segle XXl, that former UA standout Helena Pueyo spent her pre-Wildcat days playing for.Â
This past May, Okafor, was the female MVP of the Grand Finals of the Barcelona Collegiate Cup presented by the Elite Sports Academy, after scoring 15 points, grabbing three rebounds and dishing one assist.
Later in the summer, she helped Spain's U16 National Team to a third-place finish at FIBA's U16 EuroBasket. She also earned best guard and first-team honors. She averaged nearly 12 points (43% shooting) and 5.5 rebounds per game. She scored a tournament-high 17 points against Serbia.Â
If all holds with the Wildcat players, two years from now, Okafor would join a senior class of Jada Williams, Skylar Jones and Breya Cunningham.Â
