TEMPE — Arizona State overcame Arizona’s third-quarter surge to defeat the Wildcats 68-61 Wednesday night at Desert Financial Arena.
The Sun Devils scored the final six points and held the Cats scoreless over the last two-plus minutes to pull away.

ASU (18-4, 5-4 Big 12) ended a seven-game losing streak in the series, notching its first win vs. Arizona (10-10, 1-8) since Feb. 11, 2022.
The Wildcats lost their fifth in a row and are winless (0-5) on the road.
UA guard Noelani Cornfield had a team-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with six assists. Freshman guard Kamryn Kitchen made her first career start and had 14 points and four rebounds. Guard Sumayah Sugapong had 10 points and four boards.
ASU’s Gabby Elliott had a game-high 22 points, including a pair of free throws with 43 seconds left after stealing the ball from Kitchen and getting fouled.
Down 33-26 at halftime, Arizona opened the third quarter with a 13-0 run. Cornfield’s jumper gave the Wildcats their largest lead, 43-35, with 4:08 left in the period.
The Sun Devils responded with a 10-2 run and took a 50-49 lead into the fourth quarter.
ASU gained separation midway through the fourth, bumping its advantage to 60-55. Arizona answered with layups by Cornfield and Kitchen to make it a one-point game with 2:41 remaining.
Daniah Trammell’s layup made it 62-61 with 2:13 remaining. Arizona failed to score from that point forward, and ASU put the game away from the foul line.
The two teams meet again Feb. 14 at McKale Center. Arizona begins the second half of Big 12 play Sunday at home vs. Oklahoma State.
