After a statement-making opening weekend for No. 15 Arizona, Kaiah Altmeyer was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Altmeyer, who is the first softball Wildcat to win a Big 12 honor, walked off then-No. 11 Alabama on Saturday with a three-run double to give the Wildcats their first victory over a ranked team this season. She finished the weekend with a .667 batting average, five doubles and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Altmeyer had a hit in all six games of the Candrea Classic to help the Wildcats finish 5-1. She also had seven walks and a .773 on-base percentage.

Altmeyer now leads the league in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, doubles and walks. She is second in hits with 10.

The Arizona softball team holds up Kaiah Altmeyer (24) after its 9-1 run rule win over Alabama in the fifth inning on Feb. 8, 2025.

Arizona beat Alabama for the first time since winning a pair of games in Tuscaloosa in 2020. In addition, the Wildcats avenged a loss to former Pac-12 foe, Washington, on Friday with a two-hit shutout from Devyn Netz on Sunday. She struck out nine batters.

Next up for the Wildcats is the Bear Down Fiesta starting Thursday at Hillenbrand Stadium.
