School will be out of session around Southern Arizona for winter break over the next couple of weeks but there will be plenty to watch in prep sports.

Teams are just warming up as several tournaments are set to take center stage during the break. Here's a look at all the action going on in the Tucson area:

Boys Basketball

Sabino Holiday Tournament

Dates: Dec. 28-30, first game  at 1 p.m.

Location: Sabino

Teams: Sabino, Canyon del Oro, Ironwood Ridge, Desert View, Amphitheater, Flowing Wells, Santa Rita, Gilbert Williams Field, Mesa Westwood, Queen Creek Poston Butte, Buckeye Union and Apache Junction.

Don't miss: Flowing Wells senior center Jordan Behrend has recorded six double-doubles, and has eight games with double-digit rebounding totals. The 6-foot-5-inch Behrend is averaging 13 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game.

Northwest Desert Classic

Dates: Dec. 28-30, first game at 10 a.m.

Location: Immaculate Heart and Pusch Ridge Christian.

Teams: Immaculate Heart, Pusch Ridge Christian, Benson, St. Augustine Catholic, Desert Christian, Catalina, Globe and St. Michael.

Don't miss: St. Augustine  is 9-0 thanks in large-part to sophomore guard Andrew Reyna, who is averaging 13 points, 3.0 steals, 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game. Desert Christian freshman small forward Ryan Grabosch is leading the Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 12.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Girls Basketball

Flowing Wells Holiday Shootout

Dates: Dec. 28-30, first game at 3:30 p.m.

Location: Flowing Wells

Teams: Flowing Wells, Sunnyside, Cienega, Sierra Vista Buena, Sahuaro, Canyon del Oro, Marana, Catalina Foothills, Pueblo, Rio Rico, Palo Verde, Nogales, Desert Christian, Casa Grande Vista Grande, Queen Creek, Mesa Dobson and Yuma Kofa.

Don't miss: Cienega (4-1) has lost some fire power since last season, but will go as far as senior guard Sabrina Hartzell and junior forward Keva Mack can carry it. Sahuaro (7-2) is a senior-laden squad with the versatility to beat teams inside or with jumpers. Pueblo (9-0) beat Sahuaro in the championship game of the Boyd Baker tournament last month.

Northwest Desert Classic

Dates: Dec. 28-30, first game at 10 a.m.

Location: Immaculate Heart and Pusch Ridge Christian

Teams: Pusch Ridge Christian, Tucson High, Salpointe Catholic, Ironwood Ridge, Flagstaff Coconino, Scottsdale Notre Dame, Tempe Marcos de Niza and St. Michael.

Don't miss: More than half the teams in the field qualified for the playoffs last season and a few individuals standout. Badgers senior forward Alexis Cortez is the fifth-leading scorer in the country, averaging 35 points per game. I-Ridge senior forward Lexy Ram is averaging 17.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.

Boys Soccer

The Grove Invitational

Dates: Dec. 28-Jan. 2, first match at 8:30 a.m.

Location: Walden Grove and Sahuarita

Teams: Walden Grove, Sahuarita, Pusch Ridge Christian, Casa Grande Vista Grande, Safford, Catalina Foothills, Cienega, Rio Rico, Sunnyside, Sahuaro, Rincon/University and Nogales.

Don't miss: Sunnyside is off to a 8-1 start, with the lone loss coming against powerhouse Tucson High. The Blue Devils have surrendered eight goals in nine matches.

Girls Soccer

Palo Verde Invitational

Dates: Dec. 18-22, first match at 1:45 p.m.

Location: Palo Verde

Teams: Palo Verde, Desert View, Sunnyside, Sierra Vista Buena, Douglas, Cholla, Flowing Wells and Casa Grande Vista Grande.

Don't miss: Palo Verde junior forward Jackie Igulu scored four goals Tuesday night against visiting Safford in a 5-0 win.

The Grove Invitational

Dates: Dec. 28-Jan. 2, first match at 8:30 a.m.

Location: Walden Grove and Sahuarita

Teams: Walden Grove, Sahuarita, Safford, Rincon/University, Cienega, Catalina Foothills, Sahuaro, Salpointe Catholic, Ironwood Ridge, Tucson High, Rio Rico and Nogales.

Don't miss: Walden Grove junior midfielder/forward Isabella Solorza has netted a team-high nine goals for the defending Division III state champions. Salpointe, which won the event last season, comes into the tournament 8-0 having outscored its opponents 31-0.

Wrestling

Mountain View Dual Invitational

Dates: Dec. 18-19, first match at 10:30 a.m.

Location: Mountain View.

Teams: Mountain View, Flowing Wells, Sahuaro, Walden Grove, Sahuarita, Amphitheater, Cienega, Sabino, Sierra Vista Buena, San Manuel, Show Low, Safford, Chino Valley, St. Johns, Mesa Skyline and Gilbert Higley.

Don't miss: Amphitheater, the Division III state runner-up last season, returns plenty of power. Seniors Yarhoki Aldiva and Kyle Rodriguez were state champs in the 132 and 195 weight classes, respectively. Saul Payan Diaz (152) and Rafael Paredes (160) both finished in second place.
