Amphitheater's softball team hadn't posted a winning record since 2007-08 and was the final team to qualify for the Division IV state tournament this spring.
But the 24th-seeded Panthers were one of the biggest winners in Friday's first-round action.
Amphi rolled to an 18-1 win to upset No. 9 Florence and advance to the second round of the playoffs. The Panthers face No. 8 Chandler Prep at Phoenix Rose Mofford on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with a chance to move on to next weekend's quarterfinals.
