The great Lafayette Lever led Pueblo High School to its second straight Arizona state basketball title in 1978 – a cross-town battle against Rincon High School. Pueblo was coach by Roland LaVetter, whose 1977 and 1978 teams won back to back State Championships and were named “Basketball team of the century” by the Arizona Daily Star. The old south gym at Pueblo was renamed in LaVetter's honor on Feb. 5, 2019.
