Rich Alday, who coached Pima College's baseball team from 1973-1988, is returning to PCC to become the Aztecs' new head baseball coach.
The 1965 All-State quarterback from Tucson High School has been head coach of Ironwood Ridge High School's softball team the last four seasons. The Nighthawks won state championships in 2014 and 2016 and went 107-33 under Alday.
Alday, 68, won 498 games at Pima College as its first-ever baseball coach, including five ACCAC championships. His 1985 team reached the NJCAA World Series championship game. He then was head coach at the University of New Mexico from 1989-2007.
The Aztecs parted ways with baseball coach Jason Hisey last week; his teams went 196-188 in seven years.
