The San Jose Barracuda edged the Tucson Roadrunners 3-2 in a back-and-forth affair at Tucson Arena on Tuesday night. The result evened the teams’ season series at one apiece after Tucson knocked off the Barracuda in San Jose on Friday.
Jens Looke opened the night with a crafty breakaway score just over two minutes in that gave Tucson the early lead on his fourth goal of the season. San Jose kept the scoring going later in the first period as Tim Clifton got the Barracuda on the board, and in the first few minutes of the second on a Jon Martin goal that gave San Jose a 2-1 lead.
Roadrunners goalie Hunter Miska lost for just the second time in net for Tucson this season, allowing three goals on 27 shots.
Mario Kempe evened the game at 2-2 midway through the second with a nice backhand score around San Jose goalie Antoine Bibeau, but it was Alexander True who gave the Barracuda the lead for good on a power play in the opening minutes of the third period.
The Roadrunners and Barracuda will finish the two-game stint Wednesday at Tucson Arena, before Tucson heads out for a quick visit to Ontario on Saturday.
