Cliff Myrick coached Catalina High School to the 1967 state baseball championship, the highlight of his 27 years on the CHS coaching staff, winning 329 games, and then went on to achieve even higher acclaim as one of the top high school football referees in Tucson and Arizona history.
He died here last week. He was 98.
Myrick remains one of the top baseball players in Tucson history. He was part of Tucson Highâs powerhouse state championship teams of 1944, 1945 and 1946. After serving in the Army â he was part of the USAâs early occupation of Tokyo â returned to Tucson to play for Arizona and lead the Wildcats in RBI in 1951.
