I can imagine some UA softball players and coaches did a double take this weekend at ASU’s Farrington Stadium when they saw a building that said β€œLapan Sunshine Devil Deck.”

The Wildcats’ team room and locker facilities at Hillenbrand Stadium have been named β€œLapan Family Center” since 2019. Yes, it’s the same Lapan supporting both softball programs.

Arizona, at Hillenbrand Stadium (pictured on April 21 when the Wildcats took on ASU), led the Pac-12 in total softball attendance at 59,430 in-person spectators for the 2024 season.

Long-time Tucson cardiologist David Lapan donated $1 million to the UA to build its locker room six years ago. He recently donated an estimated $2 million for ASU to construct its softball facility.

At ASU, the new facility is named the Jackie Vasquez Softball Center, for Lapan’s wife. Sound familiar? Jackie Vasquez, a former Catalina Foothills High School softball standout, was an All-Pac-10 outfielder on ASU’s 2008 NCAA championship team. She is now married to Lapan.
