Sean Elliott returned to Tucson on Thursday to be one of 10 honored by the UA at the school’s Alumni of the Year celebration. (The other sports-related person honored was two-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Todd Pletcher).
Elliott, now the TV and radio analyst for his old NBA team, the San Antonio Spurs, was honored at the Student Union, and later made his way to a private reception attended by those such as Mayor Regina Romero, UA president Suresh Garimella and Arizona athletic director Desireé Reed-Francois.
Arizona men’s basketball head coach Lute Olson chats with star Sean Elliott on the bench against USC on Feb. 27, 1989.
Elliott, a Cholla High School grad who played at Arizona from 1986-89, earned his degree in humanities in 2022, saying that he promised his late mother, Odiemae, he would someday complete his college education.
