University of Arizona vs Hawai'i

Arizona Wildcats wide receiver Tyrell Johnson bounces off Hawaii defensive back Jalen Rogers and into the end zone in the first quarter of their game at Arizona Stadium on Saturday. Johnson carried the ball twice for 27 yards and caught one pass for 12 yards against the Rainbow Warriors.

Arizona came into the season with a plan at quarterback and running back, with depth and talent at both to the point where, compared to some other spots on the roster, those positions weren’t a concern.

Zach Werlinger wasn’t a part of that plan at quarterback.

Tyrell Johnson wasn’t a part of that plan at running back.

They became the only option at one point on Saturday against UCLA.

During Saturday’s game, UA quarterback Brandon Dawkins hurt his ribs and was replaced by Werlinger.

Nick Wilson didn’t last long before leaving the game, too, leaving Johnson — a receiver — as Arizona’s best option at running back.

Werlinger threw four incomplete passes in his first quarter of action, Johnson rushed for 33 yards in the first half but fumbled once. It was recovered by Arizona.
