Camping out in the 'wilds' of Marana

Nathan Davis, right, and his friend Draven Shipley handle the assembly chores as they put up the Davis family's tent at the sixth Marana Parks and Recreation "Camping Under the Stars" at Ora Mae Harn Park, 13250 N. Lon Adams Road.

Who's up for a family getaway without leaving town?

We're not talking the traditional staycation at a local resort. We're talking about camping with other families at a nearby park. On the cheap.

The Town of Marana is hosting its tenth annual Camping Under the Stars event April 22 at Ora Mae Harn park.

Your registration fee of $5 to $15 includes your tent site, campfire, board games, crafts, tent building contest, outdoor games, cooking demos, nature exhibitors, tree planting and stargazing.

Plus, you'll get to see Pixar's "Inside Out" as part of Marana's free movie in the park program.

There will be a tent decorating contest with prizes, so make sure to bring decorations.

A past family outing at the park included the screening of "Over the Hedge."
