We have so many things to look forward to in August. 

Things to look forward to: School's back in session, the return of the mermaids, Tucson's birthday and the return of the college students.

Here's what we found for you this month. 

DO SOMETHING WITH THE WHOLE FAM

Silly Tassie's Back-to-School Bash at Bookmans

Get the kids excited about going back to school with face painting, balloon animals and carnival games.

ARTivity at Sonoran Glass School 

Take the kiddos to the Sonoran Glass School for a bunch of free hands-on activities and some that cost money ($3-$10). There will also be food trucks and live entertainment.

Sip & Sketch at Tucson Hop Shop

Relax at the bar with a beer (not free) and something to color.

Art Sprouts at the UA Museum of Art

Take your 2- to 5-year-old to the Museum of Art at the UA for interactive story time. Children will explore art, move around, read, and investigate objects and art materials.

Return of the Mermaids

There is so much going on when the mermaids come to town. We're excited about the Tucson Improv Movement's mermaid show ($5), meeting a real-life mermaid, the costume contest, a mermaid dance party just for over 21s at Surly Wench ($5 cover) and more.

Botanas, Bebidas and Birthday Cake at Mission Garden

Celebrate Tucson's birthday with traditional foods, drinks and birthday cake.

Solar Eclipse Party at Sky Bar

Watch the solar eclipse at Sky Bar. There will be astronomers to answer questions and free solar protective glasses to wear, plus $1 coffee.

Young Flyers Fun at Pima Air and Space Museum

Your kiddo will learn about the world of aviation and aerospace with activities, tours, stories and demonstrations.

Cost: Young Flyers Fun is free with admission. General admission is $15.50 for adults (13 and older), $12.25 for Pima County residents, $12.75 for Seniors (65+) and military, $9 for children 5-12, and free for children 4 and under.

Fourth Friday Farmers Market at Tucson Botanical Gardens

Buy your produce, things you didn't think you needed and explore the gardens.

Kids Miniature Garden Workshop at Green Things

Take your kids to Green Things to make their own miniature garden. Just imagine their tiny hands making a tiny garden. S'cute.

Space Night at the Children's Museum

It's a little pricey but you can take your family to the Children's Museum for a night of space activities and pizza and a SLEEPOVER AT THE MUSEUM (yes, there will be breakfast).

Free showing of "Zootopia" at Reid Park

Nothing beats a free movie. Get the family together for a free showing of "Zootopia" under the stars.

"Rebel Without a Cause" at the Temple of Music and Art

The dreamy James Dean will be at the Temple of Music and Art for the Arizona Theatre Company's Classic Films at the Temple — well, he won't be actually be there but you'll get to see him in "Rebel Without a Cause." There will be popcorn, food trucks, and live entertainment.

Gelato + Wine + Beer + Marilyn Monroe = ❤️

Bella's Gelato Shoppe food truck is pairing gelato with beer and wine, and while you enjoy the pairing, Casa Film Bar is playing Marilyn Monroe movies. It's going to be fabulous.

"Guardian's of the Galaxy Vol. 2" at the UA Mall

Another free movie but this one's out of this world. Watch the latest "Guardian's of the Galaxy" movie under the stars with your friends or family. Don't forget to bring something to sit on and snack on.

Bad Decisions Camp Out at AZ Hops and Vines
